Home > Projects >Running the Sahara > Fundraising

With your participation at Running the Sahara 2012, you are fundraising for Sandblast’s Saharawi Artist Fund. The sponsorship you raise in the next few months will help to realize the Studio-Live project, a professional mobile recording studio in the camps, coupled with the training to train Saharawis to run it.

This section provides you with information on the fundraising process – the Sandblast way:

Online fundraising with JustGiving

Justgiving is by far the easiest method of collecting donations. It’s really simple, quick, tax-friendly and will help you to raise as much money as possible.

You create a fundraising page on the Justgiving website (www.justgiving.com). This takes 5 minutes and you are guided step by step. You then email the link to all your friends along with your begging covering note and then they donate on line. This means the funds are transferred automatically to Sandblast’s bank account, so you don’t have to chase cash or cheques and there is no further hassle. Friends and family even receive an automatic thank you via email.

The tutorial below will help you step by step through the JustGiving experience:

Tips & Advice

Here are a few tips that people have given us along that can help your fund-raising efforts to be more successful:

  • Don’t forget to always get ALL THE GIFT AID -it makes huge difference. It adds almost a third extra to the money you raise.  When you are raising money through JUSTGIVING please remind people that if they are a British taxpayer they qualify for GIFT AID and only need to follow simple instructions to add value to their donation. Otherwise please get all those who donate by check to Sandblast to click GIFT AID to print out and fill and sign the form and mail it to:  Sandblast, 61 Minster Rd, London NW2 3SH
  • Don’t be shy. People love to support a really worthy cause. People also love to hear you are doing something amazing and different-tell EVERYONE!

Ideas for Fundraising

While many of you will already have lots of ingenious fundraising ideas which don’t even appear below, for those doing fund-raising for the first time, here are some suggestions we hope can help you get started.  (We will be happy to provided supportive materials as needed.)

  • Hold talks and film presentations about the Saharawi cause and charge an entry fee, then donate this to Sandblast
  • Have a pub-quiz and ask all groups to register for a minimal fee
  • Hold a raffle, auction an item or hold a bingo night
  • Hold an event (a picnic, a party, dinner, etc) and collect money for Sandblast, bake cakes and cookies and sell them to your friends, family and colleagues
  • Send e-cards instead of paper ones (and donate the amount you would have spent purchasing and sending these). Instead of getting birthday presents you don’t really need, ask your friends to donate their value to Sandblast
